To learn how to enchance an existing .NET application with PowerShell capabilities.
Here before 25th of April

Have you ever been in a software project where the IT staff that would run the system in production, was accounted for right from the start? My guess is not very often. In fact, it’s far too rare to see functionality being built into software systems specifically to make the job of the IT administrator easier. It’s a pity, because pulling that off doesn’t require as much time and effort as you might think with tools like PowerShell.

In this session our own Enrico Campidoglio (@ecampidoglio) will show you how to enhance an existing .NET web application with a set of administrative tools, built using the PowerShell programming model. Once that is in place, he’ll demonstrate how common maintenance tasks can either be performed manually using a traditional GUI or be fully automated through PowerShell scripts using the same code base.

Since the last few years, Microsoft itself has committed to making all of its major server products fully administrable both through traditional GUI based tools as well as PowerShell. If you’re building a server application on the .NET platform, you will soon be expected to do the same.

As always there will be some quick food and drinks for you to enjoy with the session. We open the doors at 18:00 and Enrico will be on stage 18:15 and talk for about an hour. After that it’s time to get down and dirty with PowerShell, so if you want to stay for a practical workshop bring a laptop with GIT and VisualStudio installed. If you can’t bring one I’m sure there will be plenty of people to pair with.

I hope to see you there; space is limited so please RSVP if you would like to come. If you have any questions feel free to contact me, +46 (0)709-78 40 03.

Why you should talk to strangers

To discuss what we as .NET developers can learn from other programming languages.
Here before 23rd of January

You know how your mother told you to never talk to strangers? Well, she was wrong. Not talking to strangers means never leaving your comfort zone, never exploring anything new and never learning anything beyond that what is familiar – .NET.

This evening we will explore how being unfaithful to .NET will make you a better .NET developer; how other languages and other ways of thinking will give you an competitive edge over your peers.

We start of by listening to a 50 minutes presentation by our own Martin Mazur – long time language agnostic developer and agile evangelist with several years of experience working with software development. Then, after a short break, we reorganize the chairs, form a fishbowl and have an open discussion on the subject.

Refreshments will be served throughout the evening; space is limited so please RSVP if you would like to come.

Looking forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions feel free to contact me, Oskar Hülphers, +46 (0)706-735898.

As soon as we saw that Roy Osherove, the author of The Art of Unit Testing, was looking for companies to help him host TDD courses in Sweden we immediately responded. We didn’t want to miss out on such an opportunity – to have Roy Osherove come to our office in Lund and teach TDD!

Now we can proudly announce that on September 13th, 2011, Roy Osherove will be doing a zero to 60 TDD class at tretton37′s office in Lund!

Summary from www.osherove.com:
Want to start doing unit testing *for real* but your devs don’t know what they are doing? In this full 9 hour day, your developers will learn how to write readable, trustworthy and maintainable tests, that won’t hurt your project’s schedule, but actually help it.

By the end of the day we will have covered most of the subjects covered in my book, The Art of Unit Testing, with adapted tooling and examples from today (not using RhinoMocks, for example, but FakeitEasy instead).

Don’t miss this opportunity! Purchase your ticket here and further information is available over at Roy’s page.

Unfortunately, this class has been cancelled. We will try to get Roy to visit us another time soon!

Developers honing their craft together.
rsvp@tretton37.com before May 22nd

How often do we as developers get a chance to practice and really hone our craft without focusing mainly on the end-result? Wouldn’t it be great to try? We thought so! That’s why, in the spirit of Corey Haines, we’d like to invite you to a Code Retreat for a full day at our office in Lund.

The purpose is for us to get a chance to practice, develop and ponder on our skills as developers, rather than learning new languages and frameworks. We aim to focus on the most basic and fundamental aspects of programming and it’s up to you to choose which language and IDE you want to use.

Attendance is completely free of charge and breakfast, lunch and snacks are included. The numbers of seats are limited though, so if you’re interested, please rsvp rather sooner than later.

Please bring your own computer, with IDE and unit testing framework ready to go, in order for us to get started as soon as possible.

We’re looking forward to a great day together. Some of us are planning to head out and grab some drinks afterwards and everyone is invited.

If you have any questions feel free to contact Oskar Hülphers, +46(0)706-735898.
